Huskies excel on and off the court

After reaching the section semifinals, the Owatonna boys’ basketball team performed even better off the court as they were recently chosen as the state academic team cham- pions for Class AAAA.
Upon learning about this honor, Head Coach Josh Williams said, “Iwas obviously excited and proud of our kids. It is their efforts in the classroom that makes something like this possible!”
He said this is the first time the Huskies have won the state championship, but, “We have won the section academic title probably eight out of the last 10 years, which is impressive in itself.”
That sustained academic excellence, he said, is due to having smart kids who “Take pride in doing well in school as well as on the court and it shows. Can’t get a much higher award than what they received!”
In addition to the students, he mentioned the students’ parents also deserve credit for nurturing their sons’ academic ambition.

“It says a lot about the kids and their families/ parents and the valuethey hold for doing well in school,” said Williams. “It’s just our job as coaches to be an extension of that and support them in any way we can.”
He explained that he and his assistant coaches emphasize the importance of academics throughout the season.
