Investigation continues in fatality involving train

City and railroad authorities continue to investigate the death of a pedestrian struck by a train Friday in Owatonna.

The incident was reported at 12:36 p.m. at the railroad tracks near North Street and Riverside Avenue; when first responders arrived, the man was already dead.

No information, including the victim’s name, has been released.

The Owatonna Police Department is joined by Union Pacific Railroad Police in the investigation.

The Owatonna Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Friday’s initial investigation closed railroad crossings at the site of the fatality, as well as the crossing at Glendale Street and Riverside Avenue.
