Klaus W. Alberts, 86, Mantorville

Klaus W. Alberts, 86, of Mantorville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 at Season’s Hospice in Rochester.
Klaus was born on the family farm near Mantorville on May 27, 1932 to Klaus H. and Henrietta (Etta) (Raddatz) Alberts. He graduated from Mantorville High School. After graduation, Klaus enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
In 1955, Klaus married Barbra Kraling and farmed the family farm for over 50 years. He enjoyed sports and played baseball for the Mantorville baseball team. Klaus also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very active in the community as a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lions, Masons, American Legion and VFW. Klaus served on the Kasson-Mantorville School Board, Dodge County Fair Board, Citizens State Bank of Hayfield Board and was a Dodge County Commissioner for 16 years, retiring in 2010.
Klaus, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbra; daughter Cynthia (Brad) O’Connell of Menomonie, Wis.; son Klaus Craig (Mary) Alberts of Mantorville; grandchildren Kristen O’Connell, Ed.D. of Eagan, Candace (David) Pesch of Albert Lea, Klaus Hiram (Samantha) Alberts of Mantorville, Kevin (Amy) Alberts of Hudson, Wis. and Colby (Dena) Alberts of Byron; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Nadine Larson of Woodbury, Arlene (Jim) Franz of Hudson, and Carolyn (Wally) Holmquist of San Antonio, Texas; and sister-in-law Gloria Alberts of Mantorville. Klaus was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marion Burdick, Roberta Meddleton, Nelda Campbell, Orvis Alberts, Jean Threinen, Margret Biel and Don Alberts.
The funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 8 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kasson, with Pastor Nirmala Reinschmidt officiating. Military rites will be presented by the Kasson American Legion Post #333.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville.
Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kasson.
