Loren Rasmussen, 79, Blooming Prairie

Loren Dale Rasmussen, age 79 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his home. 
He was born at home in Blooming Prairie on Oct. 12, 1935, the son of Louis and Amanda (Miller) Rasmussen. 
A 1954 graduate of Blooming Prairie High School, Loren served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1957 until 1963.  On July 9, 1960, he married Doris Engler in Blooming Prairie. Loren and Doris raised three children. He made his living doing plaster and stucco work.  
He began work with his dad, Louis Rasmussen, and his brother, Darrell Rasmussen to learn the trade before he was 18.  In the 1970’s, he worked with Kern Plastering in Owatonna.  During that time he worked with them in Colorado on very prestigious homes including former President Gerald Ford’s.  
For 25 years, he was a partner with Herman Beede (Beede and Rasmussen Plastering) in Blooming Prairie.  Many homes in neighboring towns were plastered and/or stuccoed by Loren, or had repairs including Permastone touched by his craftsmanship.  
A lifelong resident of Blooming Prairie, Loren was a member of the Ellendale United Methodist Church and the Blooming Prairie American Legion, where he served as past commander.  He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, bowling, and woodcarving. 
Loren is survived by his wife Doris Rasmussen of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, his children Jay (Felecia) Rasmussen of Ottawa, Illinois, Lana (Scott) Grunklee of Claremont, Minnesota, Karen (James) Huff of Austin, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren Maverick, Ashlee, and Madison Rasmussen, Korey, Lauren, and Megan Grunklee, Marlena and Elizabeth Huff; his sister Donna Rice of Albert Lea, Minnesota.  
His parents Louis and Amanda Rasmussen, his sister Dorothy Preston, his brothers Robert, Darrell, and Paul Rasmussen, brothers-in-law E.C. Preston and Ronald Rice, and his nephew Danny Rasmussen preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Ellendale United Methodist Church, with Pastor Randy Cirksena officiating.  Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. 
Interment was in the Blooming Prairie City Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 52 and V.F.W.
