Marilyn Svenby, 81

Marilyn Burnette Svenby, 81, passed away on March 18, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.
Marilyn was born on Oct. 3, 1936, in Lockhart, Minn., to Alfred and Sophie (Ellingson) Thronson. Her youth was spent on the farm in Waukon Township in rural Gary Minn. 
Marilyn attended school in Gary and graduated with the class of 1954. Following graduation, she worked at the Gary school. On Sept. 2, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald Svenby. After Donald’s discharge from the U.S. Army in 1959, the couple made their home in Moorhead. Over the years they lived in Winger, Minn. and Bejou, Minn. until settling in Kasson in 1975. 
While in Bejou Marilyn worked various jobs including the Bejou School, Post Office, City Clerk, and at the grocery store. She worked at Claremont Farmers Mutual Insurance in Kasson for 20 years, retiring in November of 2001. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.
Marilyn, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was a kind, patient, selfless person. She enjoyed embroidering, cooking and especially baking. Marilyn’s favorite times were when all her family was together, and she never missed any family events. She will be missed by many.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Donald Svenby; daughter, Leila (Frank) McKay, of Kasson; three grandchildren, Mary (Corey) Carstensen; Thomas McKay, Jamie McKay; five great-grandchildren, Lucas, Mason, Ellie, Nolan Carstensen and Alexander Johnson; brother, Allen (Shirley) Thronson, Ada, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ordale Thronson, and sister, Eunice Gunderson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. NW in Kasson, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. 
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Nirmala Reinschmidt officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
