Marion Kostelecky, 79, Owatonna
Marion Kostelecky, age 79, of Owatonna, MN, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, surrounded by her family at Benedictine Family Living Facility, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Marion Binek was born December 26, 1943, to A. L. “Tony” Binek and Elsie Erdman Binek. She grew up in Dickinson, North Dakota, where she was the youngest of four daughters.
After high school, she attended Dickinson State University. She graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and minors in French and speech.
On August 29, 1964, Marion married Lee Kostelecky, her high school sweetheart, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. In 1965, they moved to Owatonna to begin their careers and start their family. Here they raised two children, Scott and Kelly. They were blessed with four grandsons, who Marion truly adored and closely followed all their activities.
Marion taught various subjects at Owatonna Jr. High School for many years. In 1987, she became a full-time physical education instructor, until she retired in 2009. She loved every minute with all her students, who always called her “Mrs. K.”
Marion enjoyed working in her flower garden and taking care of her geraniums, roses, and hydrangeas. Because Marion loved to fish, her annual summer trip to the Northwoods, fishing for walleyes and crappies with family and friends, provided a needed break from the normal day-to-day routine. It was truly her happy place.
Never forgetting where her roots were, Marion made many trips back to Dickinson to spend quality time and family and old friends.
Survivors include her husband, Lee; son Scott (Kim) and grandsons Tyler and Cody; daughter Kelly (Chuck) Floeter, and grandsons Cole and Chase; sisters Beverly (Tony) Volesky, Frances (Mike) Smith, and Dorothy (Donald) Bussier; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A. L. Tony Binek and Elsie Erdman Binek, and brother-in-law Bill Giese.
Service will be held at a later date. Go to www.megercares.com for updates on service information or to leave an online message of condolence.
