Marvin James Kubat, age 84, of Owatonna, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born in Owatonna on June 13, 1941, to Steven and Helen (Skalicky) Kubat. Marvin attended rural Saco school through the eighth grade.

On Oct. 23, 1959, Marvin was united in marriage to Barbara Nelson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with four children: Cinda, Cheryl, Lisa, and Mark.

Marv was self-employed as a flooring installer and also farmed. Over the years, he held various jobs, which including working at Brick’s Furniture, Hi-Line Hatchery, and many other local businesses as a contractor.

Marv enjoyed watching NASCAR and football. His favorites were Dale Earnhardt and Tom Brady. His favorite pastime was collecting Oliver tractors. He also loved hunting, fishing, reading about history, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He had love for the land, wildlife and dogs. He was a member of the Minnesota Pheasants Inc.,100th Century Farm, and received the 2021 Outstanding Wildlife Conservationist Award.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara; children, Cinda Borash, Cheryl Sommer, Lisa (Dan) Roushar, and Mark (Diana) Kubat; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Steve and Richard; and four sisters, Agnes, Betty, Helen, Delores and Marcy.

Friends may greet the family on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, from 9–11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Walerius presiding. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Owatonna. Following the service, lunch will be served.
