Merton French, 72, Owatonna

Merton David French, 72, of Owatonna, passed away on April 5, 2026, at home.

Merton was born Aug. 2, 1953, in Owatonna, to Matthew and Doris French.

Merton is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Debra (Stockwell) French; daughters Amy, Nissa, and Kay (Ric); grandchildren Hayden (Hayley), Adora, Lila, Neo, Nolyn, Billie, Collin, and Clayden: great-grandchild Adelaide; siblings Bonnie Thoreson, Vivian Dennis, John French (Robin), and Marilyn Mack; life-long friends Tim and Cindy Sullivan; Baby Cat; and Handy Smurf.

In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, plant a tree or donate to a community food organization in honor of Merton’s life.

A private Celebration of Life will be held this summer at Hayden Lake.
