Myron Wencl, 88, Owatonna

Myron Wencl, 88, of Owatonna, passed away April 19, 2026.

Myron was born to Frank and Agnes Wencl on July 30, 1937, and raised on the family farm he continued to own. Myron earned his GED while serving in the U.S. Navy as a gunner aboard the USS Saratoga.

He married Catherine Janka on Sept. 19, 1959, at St. Joseph Church in Owatonna. An entrepreneur, Myron opened a Carquest Auto Parts store in the fall of 1981 and purchased General Trading in the spring of 1984; after many years of success, he retired in 2002. His son, Doug, continued to run the business which remained Carquest Auto Parts until 2024 when the name changed to Auto Value.

Myron loved restoring John Deere tractors—from pedal tractors to his prized 1937 John Deere A. He collected Barbies, steins, and toy tractors that remained on display in his store. He cherished family camping on French Lake, building the family cabin in 1985, and spent winters in Sun City West, Arizona. He enjoyed ice fishing, pontoon cruising in search of the perfect fishing spot, fall color runs hunting for apples, playing the button accordion and listening to concertina music, and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings. Myron was a member of the Owatonna Eagles, VFW, and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine, sons Douglas Wencl (Rhonda Spatenka), and Scott Wencl, all of Owatonna; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Agnes and brothers Jerome, Donald and George.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, and continue one hour prior to the service the following day. The funeral will be held at Brick-Meger Funeral Home on Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
