Johnnie Phillips is an avid sports fan whose love for athletics suits him perfectly as the Steele County Times’ sports editor. He has a passion for photography and storytelling, and lives to capture the moments that become lifelong memories.

A native of San Jose, Calif., Phillips came to the Times in 2021 after graduating from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in communications and journalism. When he’s not at work traveling around the state’s many fields, courts, rinks and mats, Phillips enjoys spending time with friends, playing pickleball, traveling, trying new restaurants and watching any and all Minnesota sports.
