Owatonna Dance Team hosts first-ever home invitational

The Owatonna Dance Team hosted its first-ever home invitational last weekend at the new Owatonna High School campus.
Making matters even sweeter for the program, Owatonna ended its day with four first-place finishes, earning wins in both the varsity kick and jazz events.
“The energy was really cool. Walking into that gym, you could feel the support and the girls could, too. The energy that the girls feed off from the stands is a huge part of dance. When people are cheering, it makes you feel like you’re not tired. It was great to see our girls have their best performances and walk off the floor being proud of themselves,” said Owatonna Dance Team head coach Nikki Burgmaier.
Owatonna was able to snag first in the varsity kick competition with a final scoring average of 68.8%, the team’s best mark of the season.
In jazz, Owatonna won with an average of 66%, another season-high mark and more than enough to complete its clean sweep of the top spots.
Huskies fans showed up in full support of all levels too, watching the junior varsity kick and B-squad jazz take first as well.
Owatonna Dance Team will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 6, in an invitational at Two Rivers High School.
