Peter Van Wyngeeren, 86, Owatonna

Peter Van Wyngeeren passed away on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna. He was 86 years old.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Ishimaru presiding. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service.

He was born in Albert Lea on March 2, 1937, to Arend and Johanna Van Wyngeeren. He grew up in Hollandale and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1959.

Peter lived near Lake Harriet and worked in business as a sales manager. In his later years, he was involved in real estate. As his retirement gig, he would play his accordion at nursing homes entertaining the residents accompanied by one of his dogs, Lobos or Sanctus. Each day he would take his dog for a walk at Lake Harriet and visit the YMCA to work out. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, spending time with family, meeting friends for dinner, relaxing at his cabin in Roberts, WI, or getting away in the winter.

He is survived by his twin sister, Alice VanderHorst of Owatonna; brother Gary Van Wyngeeren (Joleen) of Savage; sister in law, Barb Van Wyngeeren of Geneva; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; sister Betty Rietsma; brother Ryner Van Wyngeeren; and brother-in-law Wayne VanderHorst.
