Susan J. Hackerson, age 84, of Owatonna, passed away Dec. 28, 2025, at Cedar Lodge.

Friends may greet the family from 2–5 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, with a private ceremony with her four children.

Susan was born to parents Marion and Evan Day in Minneapolis. She graduated from Southwest School in 1959. She then attended St. Olaf College, where she met her husband, Richard Hackerson. She earned her Elementary Education degree from the University of Minnesota in 1963, graduating with distinction.

Susan married Richard Hackerson on June 1, 1963, in St. Paul. The two moved to Owatonna in 1979. She was a loving and attentive mother to her four children as they were growing up and also worked for Partridge’s Greenhouse (now Turtle Creek Nursery) and as an assistant librarian at Owatonna High School.

Susan was very passionate and purposeful in her crafting and gifted many of her embroidered dish towels and knitted monkeys and bunnies to family and friends, as well as to charity.

Susan is survived by her children, Brian (Deborah) Hackerson, Apple Valley, Andrew (Alisha) Hackerson, Owatonna, Sandra (Daniel Zerr) Mighell-Hackerson, Eau Claire, Charles (Mandy) Hackerson, Eagan; and six grandchildren, sister, Gloria Day of New York, brother Dallas (Sharon) Day of Vancouver, Wash., and brother Bradley Day of Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by husband Richard, and her parents.

“Thank you for your kindness” was her motto, as she gifted her own kindness to others.
