Sweethearts dine at Litomysl Church

It was a special night for many as they took their sweethearts to the Second Annual Litomysl Women’s Council Valentine Dinner Saturday night at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Litomysl.
Organizer Carol Prokopec said 175 were fed a Windsor chop dinner. Last year’s crowd was recorded at 89.
Volunteers registered guests as they entered the church. Sr. Franchon Pirkl puts heart stickers on all of the guests. Music was provided by half of the Twisted Sisters duo, namely Pat Motl.
The dinner was a benefit for church kitchen renovation.
Last summer, before the church festival in July, the church had to replace a convection oven before workers could make its 600 dozen, plus Buchty (filled biscuits), to sell.   
Any proceeds were placed in the kitchen renovation fund.  This will be used toward the cost of new cupboards, counter tops and serving areas. Litomysl Church was built in 1940, and the kitchen was done shortly after that. “Therefore, this area needs to be changed for safety purposes as well as convenience for the kitchen workers,” Prokopec said. 
The church has also had bake sales, with Buchty as the major baked items being sold.  “We are hoping to start the painting and renovation project as soon as we get closer to our goal,” Prokopec said.  “We have had numerous donations from church members and other interested friends, and we are very appreciative of these gifts,” Prokopec added.
Prokopec concludes, “If we have a Valentine’s Dinner next year, hopefully, we will have a new kitchen to serve our guests from. Thanks to all who have helped make this possible.”
