Theda Morton, 87, Blooming Prairie

Theda Louise (Harms) Morton, 87 of Blooming Prairie, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus. 
She was born April 6, 1928, to Dick and Louise (Dohrman) Harms in Latimer, Iowa, the oldest of six children: Bertha, Clara, Richard, Walter and Alice. 
After moving to Minnesota, they worked in the potato, onion and cabbage fields in Hollandale where Theda graduated from eighth grade. She met Alan Morton and married him on July 9, 1950. 
Theda worked at Contel Phone Company as an operator, Farmers and Merchants Bank, United Telephone and drove school bus while Alan was in the service. Theda also worked at First National Bank, People’s Natural Gas, drove school bus again and did book work at T.S. Morton & Son while managing the apartment buildings they built in 1965, 1972 and 1973. 
In 1984 they opened Alan Morton Plumbing, Heating and Pump, Inc. Theda and Alan raised three active children together. They loved traveling, going on cruises together, hunting and camping out west. They took many children with them on their family camping trips to St. Croix River and many other places. Theda was also a great cook.
Survivors include husband Alan T. Morton of Blooming Prairie; son Kerry T. (Mary) Morton of Faribault; daughter Tamra L. (Jerry) Bissell of Blooming Prairie; granddaughters Heather Joe Morton of Tempe, Arizona, Melissa May (Chris) Nussbaum of St. Louis Park; grandson Tyler Jerry Jay Bissell of Blooming Prairie; great-grandsons Bradyn Thomas Ellingson of Austin and Mayson Richard Nussbaum of St. Louis Park; other relatives and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Louise Harms; son Jan Morton; parents-in-law Ward and Lucille Morton; sister-in-law Ann (Morton) Christenson; and nephew Mitchell Myers.
Funeral services were held Oct. 30, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Matthew Fennell officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie Cemetery.
