Verna Morrison, 94, New London

Verna (Ferrington) Morrison, age 94, of New London, Minn., formerly of Owatonna, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at home.

Verna was born June 1, 1929, in Austin to William L. and Sena A. (Nelson) Ferrington. She grew up on the family farm near Blooming Prairie, attending country school and graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1947. Verna was employed with Federation Insurance for several years after graduating from high school.

She united in marriage with Marvin H. Morrison on Sept. 12, 1952, and raised their family in rural Claremont, Belgrade, and Long Prairie, Minn.

Verna enjoyed traveling with her family to visit longtime friends, attending church functions, gardening, canning, cooking/baking, sewing, reading, and listening to Christian radio and radio coverage of high school football and basketball games. She loved children and was known as Grandma Verna to many and spent many years with children in the church nursery.

Verna is survived by her children, Keith (Bernie) Morrison, Lonny Morrison, Cheryl (Jim) Meyers, and Becky (Scott) Piper; grandchildren, Jennifer Morrison (Chris), Paul (Tina) Morrison, Holly (Sean) Doan, Megan (Adam) Shoultz, ReAnna Litzau, Sterling Morrison, Saydee Morrison, Melanie Meyers, and Holly Piper; and 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Ferrington; son, Wayne Morrison; and grandson, Colin Piper.

The funeral service for Verna will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be in Havana Cemetery, Havana Township.
