Virgil Peterson, 90, Owatonna
Virgil "Pete" Conrad Peterson, 90, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2025, at Birchwood Cottages surrounded by family.
He was born on June 27, 1935, in Ellendale, to parents Roy and Orlanda (Reese) Peterson. He was a devoted husband to Barbara and a loving father to Timothy, Terry, Scott and Troy.
Pete was hard-working and dedicated. After graduating from New Richland High School in 1953 and Moler Barber School in 1954, he embarked on his barbering career of 64 years, almost all in Owatonna.
Pete and Barbara (Randall) were married Oct. 18, 1958, in Owatonna at the United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 6 years. He was an active member of Christian Family Church and New Beginnings Church for many years.
He enjoyed participating in bowling, horseshoes and softball. He loved to watch his sons participate in various sports throughout the years, especially wrestling. He and Barbara loved to take each grandchild on a special vacation together and take them out for lunch after church.
Pete is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara; four children: Timothy (Cherrie'), Terry (Ellen), Scott (Joan) and Troy (Elizabeth); 12 grandchildren: Trey (Stephany), Rachelle, Chantel (Kevin) Weiman, Trom, Brent (Sarah), Elissa (Marc) Jessup, Reid (Jessica), Leif, Cameron (Paula), Hannah (Matthew) Williams, Gavin, and Ethan (Rachel); 19 great- grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at Christian Family Church, 2300 Heritage Place, Owatonna. Lunch will follow the service, and burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
