Zwiener reaches 100 wins

Westfield wrestler Bo Zwiener reached the illustrious 100-win mark last week after pinning his opponent from Winona in the first period at the team’s invitational tournament.
Zwiener finished last season in sixth place at the Minnesota State High School League state tournament and knew he was close to the mark heading into 2023-24.
“I finished last year with 98 wins, so I knew I just needed two more. It was nerve-racking leading up to it, but once I got out there, it felt like another match,” said Zwiener.
The junior’s milestone win almost came via forfeit, but thankfully, Winona rolled out a wrestler to ensure Zwiener was able to earn his career mark in the circle.
“I didn’t want it to happen like that. I was so happy when I saw I had an opponent. I got the pin in the first period, and it was an awesome feeling,” said Zwiener.
Zwiener was able to stick his opponent via armbar, adding him into an elite club in Minnesota wrestling.
“It’s really cool. I always looked up to guys who reached that mark. Now, I’ve had people come up and congratulate me on reaching 100 wins. They say, ‘Welcome to the 100 club,’ and stuff like that. It’s a great feeling,” said Zwiener.
With No. 100 out of the way, Zwiener now has a new goal: catching 2020 graduate and state champion Colton Krell’s all-time wins record.
“Colton set the bar real high with 181 wins. That’s what I’m aiming for now.”
With 45 regular season matches per season and the state and section tournaments on top of that, Westfield's junior will have a chance to catch Krell if he can keep his momentum.
Fans can watch Zwiener and the Razorbacks compete next at Northfield High School on Saturday, Dec. 16 for an invitational with 14 teams scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
