Mary Thorpe, 83, Owatonna
Mary Louise Thorpe, 83, of Owatonna, died Sept. 20, 2021 at Benedictine Health.
She was born on Nov. 24, 1937 to Raymond and Josephine Louise (Walsh) Garvey in Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the funeral at church.
She attended school in Brookfield, Missouri and graduated High School in 1955. She went to St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing where she received a 3-year Registered Nursing Degree.
During school, she met her husband Norval, the two married on Nov. 28, 1959.The two raised four boys, she ruled with an iron fist. She worked at many hospitals over her career as an RN and ended her career at the Owatonna City Hospital.
After retiring as an RN, she joined the family business, Thorpe Supply an HVAC wholesale company. One of Mary’s biggest hobbies was quilting. Her quilts can be found in many different Catholic Churches, nursing homes, Hospice facilities and she is featured in many different quilting magazines. Mary loved pets, especially all her family dogs over the years. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family especially around the holidays. In 2006, she toured the World and sang for the Pope with the St. Joseph Choir.
She is survived by her husband of 61+ years, Norval; children, Rick (Anita) Thorpe, Jim Thorpe, Tim Thorpe, John Thorpe, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her sister Virginia Hoskins. Preceded in death by her parents and brother John Garvey.
