Vera Beers, 100, Owatonna
Vera Irma Beers, age 100, died Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna. She was born May 26, 1921 in Altoona Township to Clarence and Velma (Scholljegerdes) Priem. Her family bought a farm and moved to Somerset Township of Steele County when she was age 7. She attended District 22 and completed the eighth grade. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca and in later years faithfully attended Trinity Lutheran Church. Vera married Arthur C. Beers at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa on Jan. 7, 1940 and they were blessed with two children, Karen (Beers) Matson and Larry Beers. They later divorced and she continued to live in Owatonna. Vera worked for many years as kitchen staff at Jerry’s Supper Club in Owatonna. She enjoyed playing cards with several card clubs, caring for chickens as a farmer’s wife and homemaker, baking pies for the Beers Cafe and homemade angel food cakes, prayer group and bible studies at Trinity Lutheran Church, making morning coffee for her building mates at Maple Trails and enjoying many lifelong friendships in Owatonna. She also LOVED her cats and was never without them! She is survived by daughter Karen (Beers) Matson of Wayzata; grandchildren Kristen Numedahl (and Gary) of Bigfork, Minn., Nicole Melgaard (and Cordell) of Owatonna, Bridgette Ray (and Dennis) of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Benjamin Imker (and Curt Lund) of Minneapolis, and Randi Beers (Daniel Campbell) of Yellowknife, Northwest Territory, Canada; great grandchildren: Taylor Numedahl, Lauren Numedahl, Isabella Melgaard, Liam Melgaard, and Wally Campbell; daughters-in-law Genelle Ann Pafko and Jodi Beers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Clarence Priem, ex-husband Arthur Beers, brother Carroll Priem and wife Ann, son Larry Beers and son-in-law Gary Matson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna with Pastor Amanda Floy officiating. Interment will be at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Memorials preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Weekend Pantry Children’s Food Program or Trinity Lutheran Church Student Pantry.
